Blaven
Clover Hill Cottage - self catering holiday accommodation - Skye

Activities in the Local Area.

Clover Hill is ideally located for people who enjoy walking, climbing, studying wildlife and other leisure pursuits.

Walking and Climbing

Not only are there demanding climbs such as in the Cuillin and on Clach Glas ridge which adjoins Blaven, but there are many less strenuous walks and scrambles, for example on the Red Hills immediately above Torrin. You can view a short time-lapse video clip of Blaven here, taken from the lounge of Clover Hill.

If you prefer low level routes there are plenty to choose from including a coastal footpath which leads to Suishnish and Boreraig, where the remains of townships deserted at the time of the Highland Clearances can be seen.

There is a secluded bay just a ten minute walk from Clover Hill which has a sandy beach (covered at high tide), one of only a few on Skye.

Wildlife

Birds abound in the vicinity of Clover Hill, including many small birds - perhaps attracted by the burn. Larger birds including eagles, buzzards and heron also frequent the area, and in spring the cuckoo can be heard. A bird table is provided in the garden of Clover Hill.

Otters may be seen on the sea shore not far from the cottage but are very secretive and require patience, and ideally the ability to be up at dawn.

Other Activities

With Clover Hill as your touring base you may visit all corners of Skye, from Dunvegan and its famous castle in the north, to Talisker Distillery in the west, and Armadale Castle Gardens & museum in the south. The are numerous other leisure pursuits including fishing, boat trips (e.g from Elgol to Loch Coruisk and a boat with underwater windows) pony trekking, bicycle hire, golf, canoeing, swimming and guided walks.
